THE HOLIDAY OF SITUL

The 6th Holiday of Situl - the festival of iron-age life and culinary arts is behind us. This year it was organized as a walk between archaeological sites. Visitors were able to see the work of different craftsmen and their products at four different venues. Kids could bake their own bread, paint their skin, make a leather bracelet and a miniature situla or compete in archery. At every hour, the Kolenc family theatre staged a play on the Main Square, while scenes from daily life were shown in Marof by DKD Senovo players. Visitors were able to listen to a guided tour at the archaeological site Kandija and the Captain's fields, prepared by the curator from the Dolenjski Museum. At this year's Feast of Situl we also enjoyed guests from Polish Diocese, who contributed to the event. Visitors at Marof were greeted by Kamilla Dud Kawecka, Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in the Republic of Slovenia, Jasna Dokl Osolnik, Director of the Dolenjski Museum and Mayor of the City Municipality of Novo mesto, Gregor Macedoni. The festival ended in the Dolenjski Museum, with a lecture “The flourishing Hallstatt of Novo mesto”, given by the curator and archaeologist dr. Borut Križ and visiting the permanent exhibition “The Archaeological Image of Dolenjska”.
